If using pods: remove shells and soak pulp in 500ml hot water 15 minutes. Work through a sieve to extract pulp.
If using paste: dissolve in 500ml warm water.
Combine tamarind liquid with remaining water, sugar, and lime juice.
Stir until sugar dissolves.
Taste and adjust sweetness and tartness.
Serve over ice with lime slices.
